VOLLENWEIDER, Madame H.
Exhibitions: Paris 1889. Exposition Universelle 1889 Paris/Soiries de Lyon/Tissus Exposes Offert par Megroz Portier & Cie
The Universal Exposition of 1889 (Exposition Universelle de 1889) was a highly successful international exhibition and one of the few world fairs to make a profit. Its central attraction was the Eiffel Tower, a 300-meter high marvel of iron by Gustave Eiffel. This charming book emphasizes and displays beautiful French-made Lyon silk.

Folio, brown cloth, gilt lettering within a large gilt cartouche of a rooster and fern design back in black with gilt ribbon. Twenty colour plates on stubs of women in domestic or garden settings wearing dresses made of elaborately floral Lyon silk. A fine copy of a spectacular book unknown to Colas. Minor wear to corners and spine, else excellent. All plates without captions.
