[CHILDREN]

Two volumes. One of several re-issues of this popular geographical work for children, first published in 1821. Tome I deals with Europe and the Far East, and includes five hand-coloured plates. Tome II with Asia, Africa, and a detailed section on North and South America, including depictions of Native Americans, Native Canadians, and Native Californians. Contains in part one a chapter on the Laponie, with one plate. The last 36 pages in the second part are the publisher's catalogue. Much of its time, the racial stereotyping and fascination with foreign civilisations makes for somewhat uncomfortable reading today, but nevertheless highlights early 19th European perceptions of the world.
