FROHLICH, Ernst.
Der Rhein von Mannheim bis Düsseldorf.
Ernst Fröhlich (1810 - 1882). German landscape draftsman, painter, lithographer and xylographer. He moved to Munich with his family in 1820 and began studying at the Art Academy in Munich. From 1837 he worked in Munich as a freelance painter and lithographer, and gave up his studio in 1840 to study at the art academy in Mannheim. From there he moved to the Düsseldorf Art Academy but returned to Munich in 1848, where he regularly illustrated for magazines such as Fliege Blatter, Daheim and also the Münchener Bilderbogen.

1 album in-4to oblong (32 x 25 cm); veau glacé noir, plats décorés de filets et roulette à froid, avec encadrements de filets et roulettes à froid et dorés, titre doré au premier plat, tranches dorées. Magnifique album comprenant 23 superbes vues en aquatinte sur papier brun fort, gravées sur acier par J.J. Tanner et R. Dawson d’après Frohlich, et rehaussées en splendides coloris gommés de l’époque. Chaque estampe est légendée et mesure environ 175 x 115 mm. Page de titre en allemand, français et anglais. [The Rhine from Mannheim to Düsseldorf.] Oblong 4-to (32 x 25 cm); black glazed calf, sides decorated in gilt and blind tooling, title gilt on the front side, all edges gilt. Title-page printed in German, French, and English. The album contains 23 superb aquatint views over thick brownish paper by J.J.Tanner and R.Dawson after Frohlich with enhanced hand-finished colouring.
