[The Rhine from Mainz to Bonn at its most beautiful.] Oblong folio (260 x 390 mm (plates c.145 x 260 mm)). In publisher's red morocco, in blind and gilt-stamped with title in gold in the centre of front cover, spine in gilt, all edges gilt, silk endpapers. Richly ornamented chromolithographed title in gold, red and blue, chromolithographed table of contents in gold, both printed on glossy paper, and 21 'soft' engravings (c.145 x 260 mm), finely coloured by hand with colours heightened with gum arabic, mounted on thick grey paper (each with the stamp of Zabern in the right-hand corner), in a framework of double brown, and white lines and gold-leaf; with pink protective leaves. One of the few existing copies with publisher's colouring, as mentioned by Engelmann, of this magnificent series of Rhine views from Mainz to Bonn by Eberhardt Emminger (1808-1885). Andres and Schmitt also mention a printed black & white title page, but it is doubtful that such a title page would have been extra included in a coloured copy. The views are all gorgeously hand-coloured, giving a lively and romantic idea of the greatness of the beautiful and mysterious Rhine landscape that has played such a crucial role in German history and literature: "Am Rhein, Am Rhein ...".
