The 6 'Hefte,' each with six plates in their original wrappers, are stored together in a modern half-dark blue calf case with the title in gold on the front cover. Thirty-six numbered lithographed plates of officers and soldiers of all regiments, divisions, and units of the famous Prussian army, all splendidly coloured by hand, raised in opaque white. An excellent, complete copy of the first and only edition of this beautiful set of hand-coloured lithographic plates. They were published by Sarhse & Co, which specialised in plates of military uniforms. This work is, in a sense, a continuation of the collection edited by L. Elsholz, C. Rechlin, and J. Schulz, printed by the same publisher: Das preussiche Heer (Berlin 1830; Lipperheide 2165), and shows the alterations in uniforms and arms of the Prussian army, as recently introduced by Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia, including the 'Waffenrock' and 'Pickelhaube.' Friedrich Wilhelm IV reigned as King of Prussia from 1840 to 1861. A continuation with 6 (or 9) plates, issued in 1854, is lacking in almost all copies (Colas). With the 'Einladung zur Subscription' (Invitation to subscribe) for a similar work, also published by L. Sarhse & Co: Edmund Rabe, Uniformen des preussiachen Heeres (which would appear in Berlin in 1847, containing 12 plates).
