Contemporary purple leather-backed marbled paper-covered boards. Provenance: Louisa Dawson (inscription dated January 22nd, 1853). Bookplate 'Ex Libris Mary Patterson Davidson 1921' affixed to front pastedown. Minor shelf wear - some plates with some foxing - else good. A charming memento of a Grand Tourist's visit to the Vatican. The plates include images of the Pope Cardinals Bishops etc., as well as portraits of various members of the Swiss Guard. The plates may be by or after Salvatore Busuttil: both Colas and Hiler & Hiler note a very similar earlier work by Salvatore Busuttil Raccolta di costumi dello sato pontifical.
