An intriguing collection of 40 hand-coloured fashion plates by Desgrange culled from the French "grands magasins" picturing children in Victorian dress for various occasions from beachwear to wedding attire. A lovely collection. Drawn by Isabelle Toudouze Desgrange, these wonderful hand-coloured engravings of children's clothing appeared in the great fashion magazines of 19th-century France. Among the artists who specialized in fashion plates, perhaps the best known was Anaïs Toudouze, one of the three artistic Colin sisters (the others being Laure Noël and Héloïse Leloir-all nee Colin) and mother of Isabelle. Anaïs Toudouze was responsible for many plates in the leading journals. She passed her skills and techniques to her daughter, who eventually succeeded her at the journal Le Follet responsible for the 40 plates in this superb collection.
