Centennial Portfolio: Souvenir of the International Exhibition at Philadelphia, Comprising Lithographic Views of Fifty of its Principal Buildings, with Letter-Press Description / By Thomas Westcott
George Tatum refers to this book as "the best known and most useful" account of the Centennial Exposition. The plates, all tinted lithographs, show the buildings of the exhibition. "Has been called the best known and most useful of the books describing the fair" -- Hitchcock 1365. Among the illustrations are several of the buildings devoted to individual states, exhibits from several European nations, the cheese and butter building, the brewer's exhibit, the Singer Sewing Machine building, and Independence Hall.

Recent gilt-lined calf with cloth boards, preserving original paper title label to upper board, spine in six compartments of raised blind-tooled bands and blind-tooled motifs, gilt, red morocco title label on two, endpapers renewed. Complete with a map and 52 hand-coloured plates, each with a page of text and a ground plan. A very good copy. Pagination P. (2), title, publisher's note, iii-viii, contents viii, map, 1-52 blank, (2). This is a rare example of a hand-coloured example of this commemorative plate book that celebrates the first centennial of American independence at the International Exhibition in Philadelphia.
