4vo. The title refers to the ten coloured plates & uncoloured in the text are woodcuts done by Charles Heath & published by Bogue of London. The publication alludes to no date, but the coloured plates are dated 1844. So perhaps the publication date was 1844 or 45? Original binding of full red cloth with beautiful gilt embossed theatrical decoration to spine and boards. Floral endpapers. Plates are exquisitely hand-coloured. The high level of detail would have made the colouring a very lengthy process. The book is attractive and only slightly worn. The spine has been re-backed. All edges are gilt. MS inscription to title page. Prelims are moderately foxed and with a few very light foxing spots on the very first & last plates (because of their proximity to the covers). These few spots are all but invisible. A very handsome copy. Coloured plates in order: 1. Carlotta Grisi / La Giselle. 2. Persiani / Rosina. 3. Guilietta Grisi / La Norma. 4. Fanny Ellsler / Florinde. 5. Cerito / Ondine. 6. Taglioni / La Sylphide. 7. Sontag / Anna. 8. Falcon / La Juive. 9. Dorus-Gras / Marguerite de Valois. 10. Treillet-Nathan / Valentine.
