These are 24 splendid chromolithographed plates, protected by tissue paper, made by L. Haghe based on drawings by Gaspare Fossati, which depict the interior and exterior of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.

FIRST EDITION. Contemporary brown silk boards, with gilt title on upper board, expertly re-backed in seven compartments of raised bands, gilt calf labels on two and five, gilt text on seven, endpapers renewed. Illustration With a total of 24 plates (of 26; being numbers 19 and 24), one of which is the lithographed title by Owen Jones and 23 hand-coloured tinted lithographic plates by Louis Haghe after Fossati. Size - Large folio. The edges of 2 text leaves are skilfully reinforced, a tear across plate 14 extending into the image has been skilfully reinforced and is hardly noticeable, short tear in the upper margin of plate 20 is also skilfully reinforced (not affecting the image); otherwise, a very good copy, plates are clean and crisp with vivid colours.
