[VENICE].
Assedio di Venezia nel 1849.
In the European revolutionary year 1848/1849, the lagoon city of Venice also revolted against its Habsburg overlord, making itself virtually an independent republic. Austro-Hungarian troops under Field Marshal Radetzky were sent to bring the rebellious city republic to its senses. For a total of 17 months, the quickly assembled Venetian volunteer army withstood the siege by the Imperial and Royal Army.
