Square quarto album of Irish origin (10" x 11") in original straight-grain morocco with tooled designs in blind and (faded) gilt to boards. Rule in gilt to spine. All edges gilt. A tipped-in newspaper cutting dated 1949 says that it is from the library of the Duke of Leinster at Carlton Estate Maynooth near Dublin. The watercolour of Carlton and Carlton Cottage is missing. Still, there are 25 costume watercolours of European costumes mostly initialed by Hannah Colman - including one presumed to be an Irish peasant- included are some prints and drawings. A charming album but with seven watercolours affected by a damp stain. Watercolours of costumes of Italy Spain Ireland (1) France Switzerland etc. Coloured plates in order: 1.
