WILLYAMS, The Rev. Cooper.
An Account of the Campaign in the West Indies in the Year 1794, under the command of their Excellencies Lieutenant General Sir Charles Grey, K.B. and Vice Admiral Sir John Jervis, K.B. Commanders in Chief in the West Indies; with the Reduction of the Islands of Martinique, St. Lucia, Guadaloupe, Marigalante, Desiada, &c. and the events that followed those unparalleled successes, and caused the loss of Guadaloupe.
An eyewitness account of the naval campaign against the French in the West Indies. The author was a chaplain with the British Navy at the time of the occurrence of the events described. Rare. The Rev. Cooper Willyams (June 1762 - July 17, 1816) was a clergyman and a British Artist. In early life, Willyams had imbibed a love of the sea.

FIRST EDITION. Folio, preliminaries, dedication, subscription list, iv, 62pp. appendix, 149pp., text, explanation of plates one leaf, six hand- coloured aquatint plates, two engraved maps, one of the Island of Martinique, and a plan of Fort Bourbon, now Fort George. In the text, two uncolored aquatints signed C. Willyams del., S. Alken 'fecit' of the entrance to the Harbour of Point a Pitre, and Fleur d’Epee, on large paper, contemporary paper green morocco, gilt-ruled, elaborate corner pieces. A flat spine, elaborately gilt to a military device of armour and flags repeated in compartments, inner gilt dentelle, all edges gilt; marbled endpapers. All the plates were signed and drawn by the Rev. C. Willyams; S. Alken fecit. Abbey concludes, “The book is beautifully printed and is an excellent example of a ‘Bensley’ (publisher).” The final plate is of Guadeloupe, the others of Martinique. Copies were sold with the plates in a separate atlas folio or bound. Coloured plates in order: 1. Bay of Maran, Martinique. 2. Pigeon Island, Martinique. 3.
