An Africa Scrapbook. [Souvenirs d'Afrique French and Native Costumes, Scenes and Manners.] A large oblong [port]folio (30 x 37 cm) bound in contemporary cloth over red buckram with 'Afrique' gilt-stamped in on the upper board. Six fine hand-coloured lithographs (of 8) of North African costumes. Slight rubbing to board edges and corners very lightly foxed throughout, but a lovely copy of this very RARE portfolio. According to Gay, only two editions were ever issued; 1 in black-and-white priced Francs 12.- and one in colour at Francs 16. Coloured plates in order: 1. Passementier / Costumes militaires algerians (Tenue de voyage) / Juive / Famile maure allant a la campagne. 2. Colon de 2nd Classe / Zouaves de la 3rd du 4th Classe / Spahis / Bivouac de Spahis. 3.
