Quarto, contemporary full brown calf sympathetically re-backed with red morocco spine title label, marbled endpapers. FIRST EDITION with 8 hand-coloured aquatints by WIlliam Havell two black-and-white engravings and 5 charts and maps (2 foldings). Only the slightest scattered foxing and offsetting (less then usual). Light expert restoration to contemporary calf. A beautifully illustrated edition in about-fine condition. The plates include the chiefs and princes of Corea and Loo Choo; the maps include the West Coast of Corea; Chart of Great Loo Choo island and Napakiang Roads. Octavo edition was printed in 1820 and a German edition (Weimar) in 1819 and an Italian edition (Milan) in 1820. Coloured plates in order: 1. Frontis. Sulphur Island. 2. Corean Chief and his Secretary. 3. Napakiang. 4. Loo Choo Chief and his Two Sons. 5. Priest and Gentleman of Loo Choo. 6. The Prince of Loo Choo. 7. Scene after the Prince of Loo Choo's Feast. 8.
