SMIRKE, Miss.
[A Series of Six Coloured Aquatints of Views of Wales.]
A rare book of views in North Wales. Mary Smirke attended school in Rickmansworth and received her artistic training from her father. She was employed as a painter and copyist by Nathaniel Dance-Holland and Sir Thomas Lawrence and in due course became a well-regarded landscape painter.

Oblong folio, 6 hand-coloured aquatint plates, signed by Miss Smirke. Original grey wrappers, preserved in a modern olive green cloth box with a morocco label in gilt to spine. Previous ownership signature to the wrapper. Coloured plates in order: 1. Vale Crucis Abbey, Denbighshire. 2. Betgellert Bridge, Carnarvonshire. 3. Conway Castle. 4. Carnarvon Castle. 5. Pont Aberglasslyn. 6. View near Caernarvon.
