30 hand-coloured plates heightened with gum with explanatory text under each plate by Whimper. Printed one side of the leaf only by R. Clay. Large quarto folder in cloth over marbled boards, with inlaid gilt decorated label and black cloth tie containing the large loose prints. These were usually bought separately, often as Sunday School aides or as prizes, and they could be purchased plain or coloured. Coloured costs more than double the price of the plain, and the price of each is to the foot of each plate. This is the complete set in the coloured state but without a title page (if one was ever issued, probably only for the bound copies). It includes fine views of Bethlehem Jericho, Jerusalem ,Sidon, Gaza, Lebanon, Nazareth, Damascus, Pergamos & Philadelphia, one of the Seven Churches of Asia. This set is complete. Some marginal tears but no loss. There were other sets in the series... "30 plates illustrative of Natural Phenomena" & "30 plates of Natural History" (animals) which are more common but equally as nice. Coloured plates in order: 1. The Dead Sea. 2. Bethlehem. 3. Askelon. 4. Tyre. 5. Ephesus. (foxed) 6. Pergamos. 7. Jericho. 8. Laodicea. 9. Jerusalem. 10. Sardis. 11. Temple of Isis, Ethiopia. 12. Capernaum. 13. Sidon. 14. Gaza. 15. Thyatira. 16. Petra. 17. Philadelphia. 18. Mount Carmel. 19. Smyrna. 20. Babylon. 21. Idols of Egypt. 22. Samaria. 23. Thebes. 24. Nazareth. 25. Lebanon. 26. Mount Zion. 27. The Jordan. 28. Damascus. 29. Rome. 30. Nineveh.
