An exemplary sequence of lithographs in contemporary colouring. Small folio (27 x 35 cm), contemporary quarter green roan folder, rubbed and unbound. Title and attractive gilt design to spine. Spine pulled, worn, and chipped - Beraldi, XIXe, I p. 17 n°1. A sequence of 17 plates by the French painter and lithographer Victor Adam (1801- 1866), son of Jean Adam and one of the engravers for 'Description de l'Égypte.' As with many of the painters of this period, Victor Adam tried his hand at lithography. Following this sequence (his first attempt in this new branch of art), he restricted himself entirely to this technique. Adam and Langlumé sign the contemporarily coloured plates. Some plates have an unobtrusive blind stamp. Coloured plates in order: 1. Chap I. J'arrive. 2. Chap II. Je ne me reconnais plus. 3. Chap III. C'est superbe. 4. Chap IV. Elle me regarde, Dieu quel bonheur! 5. Chap V. C'est une femme honnête. 6. Chap VI. Je ne pouvais pas aller à pied. 7. Chap VII. C'est à qui m'aura. 8. Chap VIII. Comment, docteur! 9. Chap IX. Jasmin! elle avait l'air si ingénu!! 10. Chap X. Quel guignon! 11. Chap XI. Des mémoires, fi donc! 12. Chap XII. Je le savais. 13. Chap XIII. Ste Pélagie ! charmant séjour ! 14. Chap XIV. Quels inhumains ! me mettre dehors ! 15. Chap XV. Ecrivons à la vieille. 16. Chap XVI. La sempiternelle serait ma bisaïeule. 17. Chap XVII. Il faut faire une Fin !, Je l'épouse!
