Folio, lithographed title and 25 hand-coloured lithographed plates, mounted on card, loose as issued, in a 1/4 red morocco, red cloth portfolio, with matching title label to upper cover. Uncommon coloured issue. This series of drawings was Wilkie's second and was published posthumously after Wilkie died at sea in June 1841. Many of the sketches are studies for oil paintings that Wilkie intended to work upon his return. Aided by sensitive lithography and colouring, they possess a vigour that might have been in a more finished production. According to the introduction on the text leaf, "The original sketches, whence the present work is derived, realised a sum of not less than £1,400.00". Coloured plates in order: 1. Title page. Washington Irving Examining Spanish Records. 2. The Departure of the Guerilla. 3. The Guerilla's Return. 4. The Senoritta. 5.
