Small 4to. Period style full green morocco with gilt to boards and spine. Handsome illustrated Haggadah, with 24 charming woodcuts including vignette title page depicting Moses at the Burning Bush, an exceptional copy. Most unusual as all translations and commentaries are printed in Yiddish. Hebrew text. One of the more attractive editions published in the nineteenth century. Texturally, this is a reprint of Joel Brill's German translation in Hebrew characters which first appeared in 1785, printed at the Basel press of Wilhelm Haas and corrected by Solomon Coschelsberg. The 24 woodcuts are taken from Freidrich Battier's illustrations to a German Bible published in Basel in 1710 by Johann Brandmuller, Jr. The woodcut of Moses at the Burning Bush on the title page, within a decorative woodcut border, was based on the frontispiece of the Amsterdam Haggadah of 1712. A few stains, characteristic of ceremonial use, but a beautiful copy. SCARCE.
