Divan of Vahshi Baqfi

Kamal al-din or Shams al-din Mohammad, known by his pen name Vahshi Bafqi (1532 – 1583) was a Persian poet of the Safavid period. Vahshi was born in the agricultural town of Bafq, southeast of the city of Yazd. Shirin and Farhad, a Persian folklore and romantic story of Sassanid Iran is written in the meter of the Persian poet Nizami's romantic epic Shirin and Farhad.

Illuminated manuscript on paper, in Persian, the Divan of Vahshi Bafghi including his famous Farhad wa Shirin, early nineteenth century, 96 by 65 mm; incomplete at the beginning and end, double column, 11 lines cursive nasta'liq script verging on shekasteh, one illuminated head-piece opening the Farhad wa Shirin section, housed in a fine early Qajar lacquer binding. Attractive floral decoration to boards and decorative scenes to inside covers. Colour plates in order: 1. A small elaborate, richly coloured illumination, with a ruby red decorated border.
