La Legende du Roi d’Ys.
A superb illuminated manuscript in French telling the legend of the city of Ys. This work was written by Olivier Souvestre inspired by the Breton legend of the city of Ys. This manuscript, executed during the second half of the XIXth century, is inspired by illuminated French manuscripts from the XVth century.

[The Legend of the King of Ys.] A superbly and richly illuminated manuscript with a prestigious provenance, gloriously decorated and entirely hand-painted on vellum, telling of the Breton legend of the city of Ys. 8vo [200 x 140 mm.] of (11) ll., text written in black with small and round gothic characters, many painted initials on a golden background, and ornamental initials in the text. Manuscript on vellum. Bound in claret full straight-grained morocco, flat spine with the titled lettered in gilt, orange water-silked doublures and endleaves. Binding is signed by Crett. Bookplate: 'Ex Libris Georges Wendling' on verso of front free end paper. A beautiful example in fabulous condition.
