SMEDLEY, Francis Edward.
G. Cruikshank (ills)
Frank Fairlegh or Scenes From the Life of a Private Pupil. With Thirty Coloured Illustrations by George Cruikshank.
Illustrations by George Cruikshank, a prolific illustrator, and caricaturist. Cruikshank was praised as the 'modern Hogarth' during his life and illustrated for Charles Dickens as well as several other well-known authors. Written by Francis Edward Smedley, an English novelist. He is often referred to in print, with this title as Frank E Smedley. Frank Fairleigh originally appeared in Sharpe's London Magazine between 1846-8 under the title Scenes from the Life of a Private Pupil. It was a great success and therefore expanded into Frank Fairleigh for its first book form in 1850.
