Regal Heraldry. The Armorial Insignia of the Kings and Queens of England, from corbal authorities.

The author, Thomas Willement (1786 - 1871), was an English stained glass artist called "the Father of Victorian Stained Glass," active from 1811 to 1865. An interesting book on royal heraldry. Well illustrated.

FIRST EDITION. 4to pp. x [2] 116; engraved frontispiece depicting the arms of Henry VIII; 36 engraved plates (32 with hand-colouring) and head-pieces throughout; a very good to near fine copy in contemporary half blue calf; gilt spine with raised bands; some wear to extremities. Marbled boards and endpapers. This copy is from the library of British bibliographer and parliament member Beriah Botfield (1807-1863) with his bookplate. Thomas Willement (1786-1871) engraved and explained the plates while serving as a heraldic artist to King George IV. Later under Queen Victoria, he turned to work in stained glass and was responsible in significant part for the era's revival of interest in this art (DNB).
